 Job Function

  • Supervision of mechanics, quality control and management assistance to Workshop Manager.

 

Key performance areas

  • To ensure service and repairs are carried out to the highest standards of quality possible to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • To ensure efficient use of materials, equipment and labour resources.
  • To control and supervise staff in the use of equipment and tools to effect repair and diagnosis of vehicle faults and service to vehicles.
  • Hold green meeting every morning at 7.00am
  • Get information onto White board and update when necessary.
  • Receive Job cards from Service Advisor, record in book and delegate to technicians.
  • Technicians to write requisitions correctly to avoid ordering of wrong parts and to be checked by foreman.
  • Communicate with Service advisor for the booking of Service plan vehicles.
  • Follow up regularly on technicians work progress.
  • Follow up on Work Orders for any Abuse-related repairs.
  • Meeting of deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Plan & control after-hours work and servicing on Saturdays
  • Advise technicians of extra work to be done on the vehicle regarding preventative maintenance, i.e. Fuel pump and injectors.
  • Communicate daily with service advisor on Updating VOR report
  • Advise Service advisor on any extra work to be carried out on customer’s vehicles.
  • Follow up regularly on suppliers to get spares delivered as soon as possible.
  • Ensure that there is a steady flow of work in the workshop. If not keep technicians busy. ie; clean workshop benches and tools etc.
  • E-mail branches with Photo’s and advise them, that accident repairs are needed on their vehicles.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the workshop.
  • Sign off all Job Cards before sending to stores for capturing.
  • Help plan for excessive work to be outsourced / In conjunction with Service advisor.
  • Control Drivers daily movement.
  • Control and keep wash bay clean.
  • Customer relations
    • Advise customer of any additional work or delays on their vehicles.
    • Deal with customer breakdowns and queries.
    • Be courteous to customers at all times.
  • Staff management
    • To ensure staff are trained to enable high levels of quality and efficiency.
    • To ensure jobs are fairly and correctly allocated to technicians and mechanics.
    • To discipline workshop staff on routine matters
  • Communications:
    • To report all problems to management.
    • To inform Workshop Manager of any dissatisfied customers immediately.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of fleet management best practice.
    • Monitoring fleet utilization.

 

Nature of position

  • Supervisory/ Technical/ Client Service

 

Qualifications required

  • Qualified Diesel Truck Mechanic with previous Supervisory Management skills
  • Computer literacy, Office, Windows, Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Knowledge and experience on SAP and P/Lan will be beneficial.

  • Staff Supervisory and management skills and experience,
  • Performance management and experience in reporting/ implementing disciplinary action where necessary,
  • The ability to discuss and negotiate agreeable solutions to customer problems,
  • The ability to maintain personal technical knowledge and skills,
  • Implement maintenance schedules,
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance,
  • Service scheduling and planning,
  • Knowledge to implement and keep to workshop procedures and documentation,
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress,
  • Excellent client relationship and telephone skills,
  • Experience in workshop loading systems, bookings, quotations, costing and invoicing.
  • Valid Code 14 License
